The Institute of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order under the Ministry of Public Security held a workshop to collect opinions on the e-ID card project as well as methods of storing, exploiting information as well as integrating information technologies on this card, on September 8.

At the workshop, a representative of the Institute of Science and Technology stated that the new e-ID card is designed on the basis of the current domestic normal identification card model and modern concepts of e-ID cards from developed countries around the world.

In particular, the Vietnamese e-ID card reflects Vietnam’s national sovereignty as well as the country's traditional historical, cultural and geographical features such as Vietnam’s map, bronze drum emblem and other ancient artistic patterns symbolizing Vietnamese feudal dynasties.

The e-ID card will follow the National Assembly's regulations and meet various standards such as ISO/IEC 7810 Identification Cards – Physical Characteristics, ISO/IEC 7816 Identification cards — Integrated circuit cards, ISO/IEC 14443 Identification cards — Contactless integrated circuit cards. 

They suggested, the chip installed in the e-ID card should have a high information processing speed and meet various requirements for encryption and security.

As reported, there are more than half of the countries around the world, including 10 most populous countries in the world, accounting for 60% of the world's population using e-ID cards.

At the workshop, delegates gave ideas regarding the security, the information capacity, and the form of the e-ID card. They suggested, the chip installed in the e-ID card should have a high information processing speed and meet various requirements for encryption and security.

Its memory must be large enough to store needed information. Its mechanical, physical and chemical features must be suitable with the weather, climate and infrastructure conditions in Vietnam. Finally, it must be suitable for the present and the future.
