MPS seeks to strengthen with U.S partners within the framework of Vietnam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR) Rick Switzer on the morning of May 19 in Hanoi.

Also present at the meeting were Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States Embassy in Vietnam John W. McIntyre, along with representatives from units under the USTR Office and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that, after more than 30 years of normalization of diplomatic relations and more than two years of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, Vietnam – United States relations had developed strongly in both breadth and depth.

The Minister emphasized that Vietnam highly valued and wished to further promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States, in which bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation serves as a key driving force for bilateral relations.

Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security, together with relevant Vietnamese agencies, is always ready to cooperate with the U.S. side in addressing difficulties and obstacles, thereby continuing to promote substantive and mutually beneficial cooperation while ensuring fairness and balance for businesses and people of both countries.

On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the Office of the United States Trade Representative continue strengthening bilateral consultations to exchange views on the situation and specific orientations for cooperation, support capacity-building, professional exchanges and experience-sharing for officers of the Ministry of Public Security and provide facilities and equipment assistance to the Ministry in combating transnational crimes, including intellectual property rights infringement.

Thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Deputy USTR Rick Switzer shared the Minister’s positive assessment of bilateral cooperation in recent years.

The Deputy USTR affirmed that the United States is always ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant Vietnamese agencies to effectively address economic and trade issues of mutual concern and bring practical benefits to the governments, people and businesses of both countries.
