At the meeting, Minister To Lam congratulated Ambassador Camen Cano de Lasala on taking office on the occasion of 15 years since the two countries established the “strategic partnership towards the future” in 2009.

He also wished the ambassador  success in her term of office in the country, contributing to further promoting the good traditional relations between Vietnam and Spain in general, and between the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and relevant agencies of Spain in particular.

Minister To Lam emphasized that the relationship between Vietnam and Spain has seen positive and comprehensive developments in all fields in recent times.

Additionally, the cooperation between the Vietnamese MPS and Spanish law enforcement agencies has achieved many positive results in crime prevention and control as well as fire prevention and rescue.

The two sides have signed a number of cooperation documents.

Minister To Lam proposed that the two sides strengthen cooperation in prevention and combat of transnational crime, non-traditional security issues such as epidemics, climate change, food security, money laundering while enhancing cooperation in the fields of cyber security, aviation security and personal data protection, and exchange of information and experience in anti-terrorism, crisis management.

Minister To Lam also hoped that the MPS of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Spain will early sign an agreement on crime prevention and control in order to strengthen the legal basis to promote cooperation in countering crime between the two sides.

An overview of the reception. 

The two sides need to frequently share information, exchange views and positions on security situations in the region and the world, and consult each other on international issues of mutual concern as well as support each other at multilateral forums, especially at UN arrangements and ASEAN - EU cooperation frameworks.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam also proposed that the Spanish side promote cooperation and exchange of information on immigration, and that the Spanish side support Vietnam in training and capacity building of the specialized forces responsible for preventing and combating crimes and illegal migration, child abuse and terrorism.

Ambassador Carmen Cano de Lasala thanked Minister To Lam for the meeting, and pledged that she will spare no effort to contribute to strengthening cooperation and relations between the two countries in general, and between Spanish law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese MPS in particular.
