Vietnam should not become transit of drug trafficking

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, attended and spoke at a ceremony in Hanoi on September 28 hosted by the Investigation Police Department of Drug-related Crimes to honor units and individuals with outstanding achievements in preventing and fighting drug crime.

The event saw the presence of General To Lam, Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security.

At the event, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam handed the Letter of Merit from the Prime Minister to the units that had successfully stamped out major drug rings in Vietnam.

He appreciated the efforts and achievements of the Department and relevant forces under the Ministry of Public Security, the Border Guard, Customs and Coast Guard in drug prevention and combat.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam highlighted that Vietnam has been facing big challenges, including the increased number of addicts to drugs, particularly synthetic drugs while drug trafficking and drug production rings have operated more sophisticatedly and slyly.

The prevention and control of drug crimes in Vietnam has been praised by the international community, especially when the number of addict is many times lower than that of other countries with similar population size. Functional forces are also well-qualified and cracked down on various major transnational drug rings.

Vietnam’s effort and determination to prevent and fight drug crimes have been recognized and praised by the international community. In fact, the rate of drug addicts in Vietnam is much lower than in other countries. Vietnamese law enforcement forces have good qualifications and professional expertise.

The Deputy Prime Minister showed his empathy for all anti-drug forces, particularly anti-drug police, who have suffered difficulties, hardships and losses in the fight against drug criminals. He asked the leadership of the MPS to take good care and give priorities of personnel and means to this police force.

Speaking at the event, Minister To Lam praised the efforts and achievements of the anti-drug police force in the past time and asked the Investigation Police Department of Drug-related Crimes and the whole police force to make special efforts to prevent and combat of drug-related crimes in the coming time.

On this occasion, the Minister of Public Security issued a decision to honor 34 teams that successfully investigated a Chinese-run drug manufacturing line in Kon Tum province.
