Vietnam, Indonesia further cooperate in tackling security challenges

PSNews - The third Deputy-Ministerial Security Dialogue between the Ministry of Public Secuirty of Vietnam and the Indonesian National Police took place on the morning of May 20th, 2024, in Hanoi.

Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang and Deputy Chief of Indonesian National Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto co-chaired the meeting.

Welcoming the Indonesian Police delegation led by Deputy Chief of Indonesian National Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto to Vietnam, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang voiced that the visit is of great significance as it is seen as an activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam – Indonesia diplomatic relations in 2025.

Overview of the event. 

In the current complex geopolitical situation and complicated criminal situation in the region and the world, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang reaffirmed that the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia in general and cooperation between the two police forces in particular had witnessed positive developments in recent times. He highlighted the significant achievements in the fight against transnational crimes of the two countries, while calling for closer bilateral cooperation, contributing to maintaining peace, security and stability in each country as well as in ASEAN and the international community.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police Agus Andrianto affirmed that the bilateral relationship has been built on the basis of goodwill and commitment of the two sides as well as their historical, geographic and cultural similarities.

He hoped that delegates of the two parties will exchange information and practical experience in combating transnational crimes related to the two countries, contributing to stablizing the security situation in the region.

At the meeting, delegates also discussed issues regarding countering drug-related crimes, human trafficking, terrorism, ensuring cybersecurity as well as organizing training courses for Vietnamese police officers to participate in the UN peacekeeping force. They also proposed orientations for cooperation in the coming time, for the sake of stability, prosperity and development of each country.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the two sides should further promote delegation exchange at all levels, especially high-level delegations, maintain the annual mechanism of  Deputy-Ministerial Dialogue on Security on a rotating basis, while effectively implementing the Protocol amending the MOU between Vietnam and Indonesia on anti-crime cooperation signed in 2023 and stepping up the negotiation and signing of a MOU on cooperation in countering human trafficking.

The two sides also agreed to closely coordinate in combating transnational crime, join efforts to invesitgate complicated criminal cases related to the two countries, jointly organize excersises for police forces as well as not let any individual or organization take advantage of one country's territory to carry out sabotage activities against the other country.

At the end of the meeting, the two head delegates reaffirmed that the dialogue would become a comprehensive framework for the two sides to address security challenges in the region in general and in each of the two countries in particular, while they showed commitments to actively join in the combat against transnational crimes so as to maintain the two countries’ peace and security.
