Second phase of the 8th Sport Festival “For Homeland Security" scheduled for August 2020

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security (MPS), on February 14 chaired a meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 8th Sport Festival "For Homeland Security."

The 8th Sport Festival "For Homeland Security" in 2020 is one of the major events of the MPS in celebration of the 75th Tradition Day of the Vietnam People's Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2020), 15 years of the All-People Protecting National Security (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2020), and the 13th National Congress of Party.

The Sport Festival "For Homeland Security" aims to promote physical training and sports movements in the People's Public Security Forces. Sport competitions can also help officers and soldiers improve their physical and mental strength, contributing to successfully accomplishing their assigned political tasks.

The 8th festival lasts from August 2019 to August 2020 with 13 sport events, including seven popular sports (soccer, volleyball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, chess, and taekwondo) and six armed forces sports (Iron soldier, armed marathon, armed swimming, shooting, martial art, and firefighting).

The first phase of 8th Sport Festival with four sports competitions (chess, badminton, table, tennis, and taekwondo) and the soccer and volleyball qualifying rounds was held in 2019. The remaining 9 sport events of the second phase of the 8th Sport Festival "For Homeland Security" are scheduled for August 2020.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh asked all relevant units to follow closely the working plan for the second phase and ensure absolute safety and medical support for athletes during the festival.
