Public Security Forces see significant change in reading movement

PSNews – Over the past 3 years, over 80% units under the Ministry of Public Security have participated in the annual Reading Culture Ambassador Contest.

It is part of the fruitful results of the Plan 132 on developing reading culture in the Public Security Forces (PSF) perriod 2018-2023, and the 3-year implementation of the directive on development of library network and reading culture in the PSF (2020-2023).

Currently, 100% of the public security agencies and units have boookcases, particularly law books while 64% of them have their own library. In the period of 2018-2022, 15,000 books were added to local police units’s bookcases, and 100% of the public security academies and schools had a library. All libraries have photocopiers, scanners, printers and other modern equipment while some have applied.  information technogy in management and services.

Police officers actively participate in the reading movement. 

The number of readers at libraries also increased from 2018 to 2020. For instance, the liberary of People's Police College II serves from 30,000 - 40,000 readers each month; the libraries of the People's Police Academy, the Public Security University and the University of Fire Prevention and Fighting served 329,824, 36,724 and 445,529.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Party and Political Work People's Artist Major General Nguyen Cong Bay, the operation of  libraries of the PSF has vastly changed from the traditional model to the modern one with the application of digital technology. The library staff has been also gradually improved in term of professional qualifications and skills.

At the same time, local police units continuously renovated both form and content of the reading movement and development of reading culture, while actively responding to the Vietnam Book-Reading Culture Day and the World Book and Copyright Day.

Still, Major Nguyen Cong Bay pointed out some limitations in promoting the reading culture in the PSF. He said, it is necessary for public security agencies and units to attract all of their officers, soldiers and workers to the reading movement in order to meet all the targets set out in Plan No. 132.
