Over the past years, the Public Security Forces have joined the common efforts in preventing and fighting domestic violence in the country, said Major General Le Tan Tao.

Police forces at commune- and town- levels as well as the 113 police, social order police and mobile police were in charge of preventing domestic violence and dealing with domestic violence cases in the first instance. Meanwhile, serious cases of domestic violence causing social anger were successfully investigated and solved promptly by relevant police agencies and units.

The General Department of Police also coordinated with various relevant agencies and organizations in holding dissemination and education drives on the laws and regulations of domestic violence to raise public awareness of prevention of domestic violence.

According to General Tao, in implementing Plan No.157 issued on June 23, 2015 by the Ministry of Public Security on the implementation of the Program Against Domestic Violence towards 2020 of the Public Security Forces, the General Department of Police has conducted various practical activities, emphasizing the role and responsibility of the police force in preventing and fighting domestic violence, contributing to maintaining security and order.

According to the national research on domestic violence against women in Vietnam announced by the Government and the UN on November 25, 2010, more than half of the Vietnamese women are likely to be victims of violence at some time of their lives. The report states that 32% of the ever-married women have suffered physical violence during their lifetime while a large number of women have tolerated mental violence. All married women reveal that they bear mental violence if they are victims of physical or sexual violence.
