Reports at the conference read that, the police of all 63 provinces and municipalities nationwide have received more than 15 million applications for e-ID cards over the past time. Some provincial police, including Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Bac Kan, have exceeded the set goals.

However, the local police forces also encountered many difficulties in implementing the two projects. Particularly, the police in remote communes and townships with low coverage of telecommunication networks cannot access the national database on population.

Additionally, many people of ethnic minorities cannot speak Vietnamese, which makes it difficult for the police to ask them for personal information when conducting e-ID issuance procedures.

The information transmission lines of the two projects in some localities are still incomplete, so the national population database is not connected to some commune-level police posts.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc praised the efforts of the police forces nationwide in implementing the two projects over the past time.

He asked the chains of command of all police units to make more efforts to achieve the set goal of granting 50 million e-ID cards to the people by July 1, 2021.

According to the Deputy Minister, local police units should mobilize more forces and means to work on e-ID card issuance while improving the working procedures and skills at e-ID card issuance for police officers in charge of residence management.

For their outstanding achievements in implementing the two projects, 11 local police units were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Public Security's leadership at the event.
