At the reception, Minister To Lam said that 2020 marks the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam - New Zealand diplomatic relations. He also expressed his delight at the positive results of the bilateral cooperation since the two countries upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership in July 2020.

The Vietnamese minister hoped that the bilateral cooperation will see more practical outcomes for the sake of the two peoples, contributing to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world.

Minister To Lam congratulated New Zealand for its success in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic and protecting its citizens and foreigners living in New Zealand from contracting the virus. 

He expressed hope that the economic connection and cooperation in all fields, including security and police cooperation, between Vietnam and New Zealand will soon recover as the two sides put the disease under control.

The minister also congratulated Ms. Wendy Matthews on her successful working term in Vietnam, highly appreciated the great contributions of the outgoing Ambassador and the staff of the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam to the development of the bilateral relationship as well as to the building of the sound and effective cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the New Zealand Police, which is one of the key pillars in the Vietnam-New Zealand strategic partnership.

For her part, Ambassador Wendy Matthews thanked Minister To Lam for the warm reception and affirmed that, in her new working position, she will make efforts to promote the cooperation between New Zealand law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.
