General To Lam urges Public Security Forces to enhance COVID-19 prevention

General To Lam, Member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security, on March 9 hosted a meeting with the Steering Committee of the Ministry of Public Security on COVID-19 prevention and control.

The meeting also saw the presence of Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Head of the Ministry of Public Security ’s Steering Committee on COVID-19 prevention and control.

Reports delivered by members of the Steering Committee at the meeting read that, over the past time, public security agencies and units took drastic and comprehensive measures against COVID-19 while participating effectively in the supervision, detection and quarantine of COVID-19 patients as well as people suspected of COVID-19. 

At this time, public security agencies and units have successfully prevented the disease from spreading in the Public Security Forces.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam recognized and highly appreciated the efforts of the Steering Committee’s members in preventing the disease over the past time. 

Minister To Lam affirmed that the public security agencies and units at all levels actively coordinated with Central-level agencies, ministries and branches to draw up safety plans for public security officers and soldiers, significantly contributing to the COVID-19 prevention and control of the country.

Minister To Lam also requested the Steering Committee to strictly follow the directions of the Prime Minister and National Steering Committee on disease prevention and control. 

The Steering Committee should proactively guide and direct public security agencies and units to strengthen information dissemination on the disease among all their officers and soldiers as well as to ensure medical equipment and supplies for disease prevention and control. 

Particularly, public security agencies and units should attach importance to strengthening capacity of their mobile quick-response teams, and be ready for operations on request. They should strictly handle cases of spreading false information about the disease situation, causing public anxiety.

Furthermore, immigration management forces should coordinate closely with the health sector to take effective measures to manage and control entry and exit activities and quarantine all people from epidemic-hit areas.
