Deputy Minister Pham The Tung visits Head of MINUSCA

Within the framework of his working visit to the Central African Republic, Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung paid a courtesy call on Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Valentine Rugwabiza, on the afternoon of April 15, 2026 (local time).

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung affirmed that Vietnam consistently regards its participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations as an important political task, demonstrating its commitment as a responsible member of the international community to peace and security.

Providing an overview of Vietnam’s engagement in UN peacekeeping activities, he noted that, as of April 2026, the Ministry of Public Security has deployed dozens of officers on individual assignments to UN peacekeeping missions namely UNMISS in South Sudan, MINUSCA in the Central African Republic, UNISFA in the Abyei area, as well as other missions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States.

He highlighted that Formed Police Unit No.1 of the Ministry, comprising 160 officers, has achieved Level 3 in the UN Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System, reflecting its professionalism and operational readiness.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that these achievements demonstrate Vietnam’s growing contribution to international peace and sustainable security, as well as its readiness to participate more actively in addressing global challenges.

Expressing appreciation for the support provided by MINUSCA, he proposed that the Mission continue to facilitate favorable conditions for Vietnamese officers currently deployed, while supporting Vietnam’s efforts to expand its participation, particularly by increasing the number of individual police officer positions in line with UN requirements.

For her part, Valentine Rugwabiza warmly welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and highly appreciated the visit of Deputy Minister Pham The Tung to MINUSCA.

She briefed the delegation on the overall situation of peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic, including current advantages, challenges and priority orientations of the Mission.

The Head of MINUSCA also spoke highly of the contribution of Vietnamese police officers, highlighting their professionalism and positive role in maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for cooperation and development in the host country.

She affirmed her willingness to continue supporting and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese officers to successfully fulfill their assigned duties at the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.
