Counter-narcotics police force rolls out working plan for 2021

Report read at the event stated that, from December 15, 2019, to November 14, 2020, the counter-narcotics police force directly opened or participated in the investigations of 24,548 drug-related criminal cases with 36,404 suspects arrested and many drugs and other exhibits seized (738.35 kg of heroin; 3,430.8 kg, and 2,066,637 synthetic drug tablets; 254.4 kg of marijuana).

The counter-narcotics police force nationwide has prosecuted 21,376 cases with 27,433 accused. Particularly, the Counter Narcotics Police Department played either leading or coordinating roles in investing 114 drug-related cases, arrested 348 people involved and seized 266.9 kg of heroin, 1,057.8 kg, and 271,970 pills of synthetic drugs, and 1.99 kg of marijuana.

The force also promoted and expanded international cooperation on drug crime prevention and combat, contributing to improving the effectiveness in preventing transnational drug trafficking.

In the emulation movement “For the national security” in 2020, the Counter-Narcotics Police Department was awarded by the Government the “Excellent Emulation Flag”.

Given the complicated drug crime situation in the coming time, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong requested the Counter-Narcotics Police Department to actively advise the Government, ministries, Central-level agencies, and local authorities to develop and implement anti-drug programs and plans.

He then urged the unit to coordinate with agencies, departments, mass organizations, and mass media to disseminate information about the harms of illicit drugs, and mobilize all people to actively participate in the fight against drug crimes.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the counter-narcotics police force should strengthen the coordination with the Customs, the Border Guard, and the Coast Guard in combating drug-related crimes in border areas.

Additionally, the Counter-Narcotics Police Department should promote political and ideological education for counter-narcotics police officers so they can acknowledge and fulfill all tasks assigned by the Party, State, and the Public Security Forces.

At the event, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong awarded the title "National Emulation Soldier" to retired Lieutenant General Pham Van Cac, former Director of the department and awarded the title "Emulation soldier of the entire People's Public Security Forces" to two excellent policemen.
