Counter-narcotics police force investigates over 12,000 drug-related cases in H1

The Counter Narcotics Police Department (CNPD) held an online conference on June 30 with provincial-level police departments nationwide to review the task performance of the counter-narcotics police force in the first half of 2021 (H1).

Over the past six months, in spite of complex developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, the nationwide counter-narcotics police force in coordination with other functional forces has successfully investigated 12,422 drug-related cases, arrested 17,683 involved people, and seized 300 kg of heroin, 1.16 tons and 2.52 million tablets of synthetic drug, 940 kg of marijuana and many related exhibits. 

Particularly, the department conducted investigation into 54 cases, arrested 155 suspects, and seized 172 kg of heroin, 846 kg and 1.7 million pills of synthetic drug and many other exhibits.

Over the past months, the counter-narcotics police force has also increased dissemination of information on drug prevention and control with various contents and forms in key areas, especially in border areas, industrial parks, export processing zones, and schools, contributing to reducing the number of drug-related offences.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc affirmed that the Party, State, Ministry of Public Security, and people highly appreciated the achievements made by the counter-narcotics police force over the past time.

The Deputy Minister showed his consensus on the force’s future missions, saying that all public security agencies and local police units should coordinate with the counter-narcotics police force to review and work out specific plans to eradicate complex drug-related hotspots.

He also asked the department to develop specific plans, intensify measures and deploy more forces and means to destroy all complicated drug criminal lines and groups.

The department should also organize more training courses and equip more protective equipment for counter-narcotics officers and soldiers so that they can effectively fight drug crimes.
 
The department should promote international cooperation, especially information exchange and legal assistance, with foreign partners in the fight against illicit drugs, Deputy Minister Ngoc added.

On this occasion, under the authority of the State President, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc presented the Second-class Military Exploit Order to Lieutenant General Pham Van Cac, former Director of the CNPD.
