The event aims to raise public awareness of abiding by regulations on wearing helmets for children when travelling with their parents on motorcycles. The organizers will provide 35,000 vouchers, worth 100,000VND each, for students’ parents to buy helmets at Honda Exclusive Authorized Dealer (HEAD) stores nationwide.

The program will be launched in 8 provinces of An Giang, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Phu Yen, and two major cities of Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh. In Binh Dinh, the Binh Dinh Traffic Police from December 20 to January 31, 2019 will present 2500 vouchers to first graders.

The helmet law is estimated to have created a substantial uptick in the number of riders who wear helmets in urban areas, from 30 percent in 2007 to 90 percent today. Teachers and families have been called to provide children with protection skills, including wearing helmets when riding motorbikes.

With the good practice of wearing helmets, Vietnam is now recognized among developing countries for its positive achievements in traffic safety.

The data from the National Traffic Safety Committee shows that 80 percent of road traffic accident deaths are related to motorbikes. Wearing a helmet helps to reduce head injury risk by 60 percent and mortality risk by 40 percent.
