ARLEMP 49 on child sexual abuse prevention opens in Ho Chi Minh City

The opening ceremony was attended by Ms. Julianne Cowley - Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City; Major General Justin Gough of the Australian Federal Police; Senior Colonel Vu Van Dong, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Police Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Public Security.

ARLEMP 49, themed “Preventing and fighting child sexual abuse”, will run till June 28 with the participation of 24 trainees from 20 different countries.

Apart from classes, the trainees will also participate in extracurricular activities in Ho Chi Minh City and have exchanges with agencies and units of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.

At the opening ceremony, Senior Colonel Vu Van Dong, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Police Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Public Security stressed the need of the training course, saying that it would provide professional knowledge and competency for regional police officers in preventing child sexual abuse.

He said the training course also creates a good chance for regional police forces to exchange their skills and experiences of preventing child sexual abuse.

ARLEMP is a training program sponsored by the Australian Federal Police with the aim of enhancing regional law enforcement forces’ capacity to address non-traditional security threats and transnational crimes.

Since its inception in 2005, this program has organized 48 training courses for nearly 1000 law enforcement officers, contributing to enhancing cooperation among law enforcement forces of countries in Asia-Pacific region.
