10 major achievements of Public Security Forces in 2019

2019 can be seen as a year of success of the People's Public Security Forces (PPSF) as the forces have overcome all difficulties and excellently accomplished their main tasks of protecting national security and ensuring social order and safety. Particularly, the PPSF have achieved and exceed all set objectives. The Public Security Newspaper has named 10 major achievements of the PPSF as follows:

First, the PPSF have well performed their function of grasping, analyzing, forecasting the situation to give timely advice to the Party and the State on solutions and policies on politics, socio-economy, foreign affairs, and approaches to issues in the East Sea.

Second, the PPSF have actively coordinated with ministries, Central agencies and local authorities, particularly the People’s Army, in implementing plans to ensure security and order for important political events of the country, for instance the 2nd U.S – DPRK Summit in Hanoi, the UN Day of Vesak in Ninh Binh, contributing to enhancing the prestige and position of Vietnam in the international arena and creating an image of a peaceful and friendly Vietnam.

Third, the PPSF have managed to ensure national security. Notably, the forces have successfully safeguarded national security from afar, actively implemented plans to ensure national security and interests, while maintaining political security at home, denying acts of sabotage and formation of public opposite political organizations inside the country.

Fourth, the MPS has reached all targets and surpassed several of the targets set out by the National Assembly in preventing and controlling crimes. The number of criminal cases in 2019 has dropped 7.39% compared to the previous year. The police forces have cracked down on various “black credit” and drug-related cases, successfully investigated 40,744 criminal cases, 11.93% higher than the target assigned by the NA.

The police forces have also handled 14,356 cases related to economic management, 298 cases of corruption and fraud by abuse of position, 1,710 smuggling cases and 25,346 cases of environmental violations. In particular, the police forces have stamped out major transnational drug rings and seized a huge amount of drugs. In detail, the police forces investigated 22,814 drug-related cases (up by 243.36% against last year), arrested 35,151 persons involved, seized 1,494.29 kg of heroin, and 5,500.55kg of synthetic drugs.

Fifth, the police forces have enhanced the state management over traffic order and safety as well as fire prevention and fighting and rescue. As a result, the number of traffic accidents as well as the number of deaths and number of injuries in the traffic accidents have all reduced. Meanwhile, the fire police have timely and efficiently solved emerging issues related to fire prevention and safety while well performing fire prevention and fighting and rescue activities.

Sixth, the scientific and technological sector and archives sector of the PPSF have also obtained a number of achievements in performing their tasks, contributing to preventing and combating crimes.

Seventh, during the year, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has tightened coordination with relevant ministries, branches, agencies and local authorities in ensuring security and order and building the movement “All people protecting national security.”

Eighth, under the leadership of the PSCPC and MPS, the Party organizations of the public security agencies and units have focused on Party and force building work since the beginning of the year. Therefore, a large number of Party organizations have been titled the “strong and clean Party organization” while most agencies and units have been strong in organization and accomplished their assigned tasks.

Ninth, the public security agencies in charge of finance, investment, logistics and technical services have improved their professional competence and supplied sufficient and timely resources and services for both regular and unexpected operations of the PPSF.

Tenth, the staff work and leadership of all public security agencies and units have drastically been improved while the fields of telecommunications and cipher, foreign affairs and international cooperation, legal and administrative and judicial reform, strategic studies, public security scientific and theoretical research, and inspection have also seen positive results.
