Vietnam – Sri Lanka high level security dialogue

PSNews - A senior officials’ dialogue on security was organized on November 4 in Colombo, Sri Lanka between two delegations of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, and the Ministry of Law, Order and Southern Development of Sri Lanka.

The participating Vietnamese delegation was led by Minister of Public Security To Lam, while the host delegation included Mr. D.M. Swaminathan, Minister of Prison Reform, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, Mr. Mr. Jagath P. Wijeweera, Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Order as well as other participants from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Armed Police.

During the event, the two sides exchanged experiences in prevention and fight against crimes relating to security and order, especially organized and transnational crimes, terrorism and drug-related crimes.

The two parties also agreed on measures to promote cooperative ties between relevant agencies of the two countries in the future; considered about the signing of various deals on justice assistance, shaping a legal corridor for mutual cooperation.

The two sides also agreed to enhance exchange of information about criminals and collaboration in investigating specialized cases with relations with at least one side.

Additionally, the two sides shared the need to bolster cooperation on security industry and technology; law enforcement and justice assistance; education and training, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners; and exchange of all-level delegation.

The host highly appreciated the working visit by Minister To Lam and his aides, saying that it would contribute to strengthening partnership and friendship between Vietnam and Sri Lanka and cooperation among law enforcement agencies of the two nations.

On the same day, Minister To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy visit to Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Sri Lankan President warmly welcomed and spoke highly of the visit, noting that the fine traditional friendship between the two countries in various areas, including politics, economics, trade, security and defense. He also applauded comprehensive achievements and development of Vietnam.

He asked the Vietnamese Minister to pass his wishes of health and success to other Vietnamese leaders of State, and hoped that Vietnam would continue to achieve more and more successes in the future.

Minister To Lam thanked the Sri Lankan President for this warm reception. He also emphasized the sound traditional relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese senior leader also expressed his hope that the Sri Lankan President would continue giving priority and facilitating cooperation of law enforcement agencies of the two countries on security and order, for the interests of the two peoples as well as stability of the region and the world.

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation paid homage and respect to President Ho Chi Minh at His statue in the Colombo People Library, which is considered the symbol of the fine traditional friendship between the two nations.
