Vietnam, India agree to expand security cooperation

PSNews - Within the framework of a visit to India by Minister To Lam at the invitation of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Kumar Doval from April 9-10, 2023, General To Lam, heading led a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, and Mr. Ajit Kumar Doval, leading the Indian National Security Council’s delegation, held bilateral talks on security cooperation.

National Security Advisor of India Ajit Kumar Doval welcomes Minister To Lam.

At the talks, the two sides pledged to deepen the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in strategic cooperation, such as security and defense, contributing to maintaining peace, prosperity and stability of the two countries, as well as in the region and the world.

The two sides also highlighted the results of the second Vietnam - India Security Dialogue held in September 2022 in New Delhi and agreed to further deepen cooperation fields as well as other programs, such as improving the training capacity of training institutions and building capacity of officers from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

Overview of the talk.

Emphasizing the importance of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the two sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, maritime safety and security, freedom of navigation and overflight in the Indo-Pacific region, and agreed on a stance in international relations that countries should settle differences and disputes peacefully while respecting international law, not threaten to resort to the use force nor resort to the use of force, and not unilaterally change the status quo. 

In addition to talks with India's National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval, Minister To Lam also had meetings with Indian Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Indian Secretary of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai.

* On the same day, Minister To Lam and the delegation visit and lay flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument in New Delhi.
