MPS holds meeting in regard to Traditional Day of Public Security Forces

The Party Central Committee of Public Security, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a video conference on August 15, with the participation of generations of leaders of the MPS, as well as outstanding public security youths, on the occasion of the 74th Traditional Day of Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945 – 2019) and 14th Anniversary of the Movement of All People Protecting National Security.

The video conference was connected between Hanoi and HCM City. General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, chaired the meeting in Hanoi, while Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, chaired the meeting in HCM City.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam highlighted that the founding of the Public Security Forces on August 19, 1945, marked an important milestone in the cause of liberating the nation from foreign invaders and ensuring national security and public order in the country.

During the struggles for national liberation, some 15,000 public security officers laid down their lives, more than 5,000 others were injured, and a large number of officers were captured and tortured by the enemy.

Since the dawn of the renewal process, over 300 officers died and 1,300 other got serious injuries while doing their duties. In the first months of 2019 alone, 8 police officers died, 96 others were injured, and 49 officers were exposed to HIV while on duty.

Minister To Lam also briefed participants of the meeting on various achievements of the forces in the first 6 months of 2019.

Minister To Lam asked the entire forces to seriously follow and implement policies of the Party and laws of the State, actively apply scientific and technological advancements to work so as to improve the efficiency of all working aspects. Minister Lam also hoped that the MPS would receive more ideas from the former leaders and officers on ensuring national security, social order and safety and building the Public Security Forces.

On this occasion, Mr. Thuan Huu, Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan Newspaper, presented the MPS the book titled “Sentiments of Vietnamese people and international friends for Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong”.
