Minister To Lam holds talks with Minister of Myanmar Home Affairs

PSNews – Minister To Lam held talks with a high-ranking delegation of Myanmar Home Affairs Ministry, led by Minister Kyaw Swe on December 5th, in Hanoi.

The meeting saw the participation of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry, leaders of other Departments, units of the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry and the Myanmar Home Affairs Ministry.

The meeting between the two sides was themed "Strengthening exchange of experience in law enforcement; cooperation on security and prevention of transnational and new crimes to contribute more to ensuring national security, social order and safety of Vietnam and Myanmar."

On behalf of the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam welcomed the high-ranking delegation of the Myanmar Home Affairs Ministry led by Minister Kyaw Swe and hoped that the working visit of the delegation will achieve fruitful results.

In 2004, the two governments signed an agreement on crime prevention. Since then, the cooperative relationship between the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry and the Myanmar Home Affairs Ministry has continuously been strengthened and developed, contributing to deepening bilateral relations between the countries.

Minister To Lam underscored that Vietnam and Myanmar should promote close cooperate and soon complete a legal framework on crime prevention in the current complex context.

In addition, the two sides should support each other at multilateral forums such as INTERPOL, ASEANPOL and contribute much to building the ASEAN Community, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia – Pacific region.

At the meeting, the Myanmar Minister of Home Affairs Kyaw Swe sincerely thanked Minister To Lam for meaningful greetings. He highly valued the political relations between the two countries and promised to advocate Vietnam at international forums.

Minister Kyaw Swe also hoped that the two sides will continue striving for achievements, contributing to developing the bilateral relationship and maintaining national security, social order and safety of each country. 

At the end of the meeting, Minister To Lam and Minister Kyaw Swe signed a memorandum of understanding on crime prevention between the two ministries.
