Speaking at the reception, Minister Lam emphasized that, as the two countries are commemorating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, 2018 can be seen as a milestone in the Vietnam-Japan bilateral relationship. 

Minister Lam highly appreciated the Ambassador's efforts in proposing Japanese agencies to provide fire prevention and fighting facilities to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam, thereby contributing to effectively preventing and fighting fire incidents as well as ensuring social order and safety in Vietnam.

After the reception, Minister Lam and Ambassador Sugi Ryotaro witnessed a ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on fire prevention and fighting and rescue means and a contract on the supply of 10 used fire engines in 2018 between the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Police Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue, under the MPS of Vietnam.

On the afternoon of the same day, Minister To Lam also received Mr. Tsuneda Teruo, Senior Advisor of the Mainichi Newspaper Corporation (Mainichi Shimbun) and a delegation of Japanese businesses.

At the meetings, Minister To Lam stressed that Mainichi Newspaper Corporation in coordination with the Department of Traffic Police of Vietnam has successfully organized the “Traffic Safety in Vietnam with Doraemon” program since 2016, with the aim of educating traffic safety knowledge and skills for children in Vietnam.

Under the agreement of the Vietnamese Government, the MPS of Vietnam in collaboration with the Mainichi Shimbun will organize a Kizuna Ekiden running tournament, which will take place in Hanoi in November 2018. As the international sport event is held in celebration of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan, it will contribute significantly to promoting solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

Minister To Lam also emphasized that the MPS of Vietnam would create favorable conditions and ensure security and absolute safety for the event.
