Minister Luong Tam Quang holds talks with Lao Minister of Public Security

Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang hosted talks with Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Minister of Public Security of Laos Senior Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany, on the morning of March 20 in Hanoi.

At the talks, Minister Luong Tam Quang extended congratulations to the leadership, officers and enlistees of the Lao Ministry of Public Security on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of the Lao Public Security Forces.

Discussing the increasingly complex and unpredictable global and regional situation, Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed that the two countries should further strengthen their close and special relationship, in which cooperation between the two Ministries of Public Security remains a key pillar.

Regarding the bilateral cooperation, following the meeting between the two Ministers on February 5 in Vientiane, both sides have effectively maintained information exchange on issues of mutual concern in the field of security and order, closely coordinated in investigating and dismantling multiple drug trafficking networks, and accelerated the implementation of joint cooperation projects.

At the talks, the two Ministers agreed that both ministries should continue to take the lead in implementing high-level common perceptions and strategic orientations agreed between General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, thereby contributing to promoting Vietnam–Laos economic cooperation in a substantive and effective manner.

The two sides also agreed to effectively implement the 2026 cooperation plan and coordination mechanisms between under-ministerial professional units, enhance cooperation at both central and local levels, and build a proactive security posture to detect, prevent and neutralize national security threats early and from afar.

Both sides committed to further improving the effectiveness of the bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crime, intensifying efforts to apprehend fugitives wanted by one country hiding in the other country, organizing joint campaigns for crime prevention and suppression, exploring new mechanisms to facilitate bilateral cooperation and building capacity of law enforcement personnel of the two Public Security Forces.

For his part, Minister Vanthong Kongmany congratulated Vietnam on its successful organization of the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term.

He affirmed that in the coming time, the two ministries will continue to effectively implement agreed cooperation contents, contributing to further deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic bond between Vietnam and Laos in general and between the two ministries of Public Security in particular.
