PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, in coordination with relevant agencies, hosted the 6th Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Ministerial Conference on Anti-Trafficking in Persons, under the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT Process), with the theme “Enhancing Regional Cooperation to Combat Human Trafficking in the Digital Age,” on November 19, 2025, in Hanoi.

Overview of the conference.

Delivering the opening speech at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son applauded the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for its organization of the significant event, saying that it contributed to expanding cooperation among GMS countries in preventing and fighting human trafficking, and strengthening it in a more effective and sustainable manner.

Within the framework of multilateral cooperation on the fight against trafficking in persons, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son acknowledged and highly valued the role of the GMS Ministerial Conference within the COMMIT Process mechanism, and considered it a premier forum for law enforcement agencies of the countries involved to assess the situation, share national experiences in combatting human trafficking and agree on contents and approaches to promote cooperation.

As Vietnam assumes the Chairmanship of the COMMIT Process in 2025, the Ministry of Public Security is responsible for the organization of the 6th Inter-Ministerial Meeting (IMM6), themed "Enhancing Regional Cooperation to Combat Human Trafficking in the Digital Age." 

The event not only served as a testament to the spirit of strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding but also helped consolidate friendship, neighborhood and shared sustainable development among GMS countries.

At the conference, delegates actively discussed approaches to promote effective regional cooperation in combating human trafficking in the coming time. They updated national strategies and efforts to prevent and fight human trafficking as well as ways to protect victims.

At the end of the meeting, the delegates adopted the 5th Sub-regional Plan of Action.

It can be noted that the IMM Conference serves as a crucial forum where ministers and high-level officials from COMMIT member countries reaffirm their commitment to fighting human trafficking, evaluate results of the implementation of cooperation deals, and adopt future-oriented regional strategies to address emerging challenges in the sub-region.
