- Vietnam, Laos look to foster bilateral investment
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized, "The conference is of important, strategic significance, giving orientations for the bilateral security cooperation in the coming period, contributing to stabilizing political security and order, social safety, as well as creating favorable conditions for both sides to safeguard the Fatherland of each country, while facilitating the building a peaceful, stable and developed ASEAN Community. The Vietnam - Laos Security Cooperation Conference is an annual forum of the security forces of the two countries to enhance political trust, improve the efficiency of coordination and cooperation in ensuring national security and order of each country.”
Appreciating the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam’s good sentiment for the delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, Deputy Minister Kongthong Phongvichit hoped that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to boost cooperation in an effective and practical manner, maintain periodic briefings between security forces and police units stationed in localities along the shared borderline with the aim of not allowing hostile and reactionary forces to use one country to oppose the other country to split the traditional friendship and relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
At the conference, the two sides agreed that, since the 12th Vietnam-Laos Security Cooperation Conference held in Laos in March 2022, the security forces and police units of the provinces along the shared borderline have actively implemented comprehensive cooperation in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Understanding on political security, border security, as well as fighting terrorism and crimes infringing upon national security of each country.
The two side also coordinated in holding training courses for officers and implemented the exchange of delegations.
In particular, the security forces of the two countries coordinated to ensure security and safety for activities celebrating the "Year of Friendship and Solidarity between Vietnam – Laos in 2022" in both countries.
Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, the two sides will continue to effectively implement the existing cooperation mechanisms, especially coordination between professional units and local police units along the shared borderline, exchange information.
The two sides agreed on preventing and combating non-traditional security threats and closely support the views of the two countries at international and regional security cooperation forums while coordinating with each other in ensuring security for upcoming major events in Laos and Vietnam.
The Vietnamese side pledged that it will effectively support Laos to prepare and fulfill its role of the ASEAN Chair in 2024.
At the conference, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang and Deputy Minister Kongthong Phongvichit signed the minutes of the 13th Vietnam - Laos Security Cooperation Conference.
