Speaking at the event, General Director of the Institute of Human Rights under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Tuong Duy Kien said that over the past years, Vietnam has paid attention to completing the law system related to human rights, taken international recommendations through the United Nations mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and the Periodic Reporting of conventions to which Vietnam is a member.

The country has worked out national action programmes on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, while exerting efforts to carry out development programmes, particularly in supporting people in disaster-hit areas, Kien stated.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue its endeavour to help people better enjoy human rights as well as achievements of the national development. It will also remain an active and responsible member of UN offices, including the UN Human Rights Council and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). At present, Vietnam is running for the post as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure, he added.

At the event, participants focused their discussions on the value of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and shared experience in the dissemination work about human rights on the media.
