NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the evening of November 8 on the occasion of  his official visit to Vietnam and the APEC Summit in Da Nang.

The NA Chairwoman said the Vietnamese and Canadian Prime Ministers’ announcement of a joint statement on the comprehensive partnership is an important step forward and a necessary foundation to further strengthen bilateral relations in a substantive, stable and long-term manner.

On such occasion, NA Chairwoman thanked the Government of Canada for new projects invested in Vietnam to address climate change, food safety and enhance cooperative capacity with a total value of over US$ 43 million.

The Vietnam's top legislator highly appreciated and supported Canada's foreign policy towards strengthening ties with the world and the Asia-Pacific region, attaching importance to and strengthening relations with Vietnam and ASEAN.

In terms of  Canada’s contribution to the preparation for APEC events in Vietnam, Chairwoman Ngan said PM Trudeau’s participation will contribute to the success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, promote regional economic cooperation.

The NA Chairwoman also praised Trudeau's efforts to promote gender equality, feminism, child protection, and put them into policy priorities both in terms of both domestic and foreign policy of Canada.

Over the years, Vietnam has always attached importance to developing policies and programs to promote gender equality and create conditions to ensure the rights of women. This had been affirmed in the Vietnam's Constitution since as early as 1946.

The issue of gender equality and women's rights have been concretized in the 2011-2020 National Strategy for Gender Equality and many legal documents.

Nowadays, Vietnamese women have held many leading positions in the country, including the Chairwoman and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Vice State President, Ministers and Deputy Ministers and made many contributions to the cause of development of the country.
