Writing contest on fatherland’s seas and islands held for students launched in Nam Dinh

PSNews – The writing contest “I love my fatherland’s seas and islands” is a regular and meaningful program held by the Youth Union chapter of the High Command of Coast Guard for students across the country.

The contest aims at disseminating information and helping people in general and the student in particular understand more about the role and significance of Vietnam’s seas and islands, and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982, the Law of the Sea of Vietnam in 2012, and the Ordinance of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the Vietnam Coast Guard Force. 

On September 28, the contest was launched for students at the My Thanh Secondary School, My Loc District, Nam Dinh Province and attracted a large number of local students. During the contest, the students showed their great love toward the fatherland’s seas and islands.

The questions were about the Vietnam Coast Guard Law in 2018, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982, the functions, tasks and the traditions of the Vietnam Coast Guard Force, as well as the harms of drugs.

All this information helped local teachers and students broaden their knowledge of the Vietnam’s seas and islands and how to prevent drugs at school.

 Major General Doan Bao Quyet, Deputy Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command said that, since 2013, the High Command in collaboration with other units has successfully organized the writing contest at 38 secondary schools in 15 provinces and cities nationwide with the participation of over 40,000 teachers and students as well as local people.

Over the past time, the organizers have awarded 740 scholarships with a total value of 640 million VND and 172 bicycles to needy students with excellent academic records, presented 500 packs of gifts to policy beneficiary families and needy households with a total value of 430 million VND.
