The best nine works from 105 entries in a contest aiming to fight violence against women and girls were honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 5.

The contest was jointly held by the Centre for Studies and Applied Sciences in Gender, Family, Women, and Adolescents (CSAGA), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Embassy of the Netherlands, the Anh Duong (Sunshine) House Shelter, which provides support for victims of violence against women and children, and the Phu Nu Viet Nam (Vietnamese Women) newspaper.

Of the 105 entries submitted from August 20 to September 25, 75 were photos or paintings and 24 video clips, which had 38,068 shares on social networks like Facebook and TikTok.

Speaking at the ceremony, UNFPA Chief Representative in Vietnam Naomi Kitahara said the contest extended a message that all people can join hands in the fight.

She cited a national study on violence against women in Vietnam in 2019 as saying that more than 93 percent of women who experienced physical or sexual violence at the hands of their husbands have not sought any help.

Therefore, she called for greater efforts in encouraging victims as well as the community to raise their voice and build a society with zero tolerance for violence against women and girls.

CSAGA Director Nguyen Van Anh said contestants came from different social strata and different age groups, reflecting public concern over this issue.
