A grand welcome ceremony was held on June 26 in Beijing for Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is currently on an official visit to China.

The ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People was chaired by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, with many high-ranking Chinese official attending.

This marks the first official visit made by PM Chinh and the first trip undertaken by a Vietnamese PM to China after seven years.

PM Chính's visit to the northern neighbour, the first in his capacity as Vietnamese PM, takes place amid both nations celebrating 15 years of their comprehensive strategic co-operation partnership this year.

They hold talks following the welcome ceremony. Moving forward, the two sides are expected to seek specific measures aimed at promoting economic and trade ties, especially between the two countries' border localities, as well as implementing large infrastructure projects.

During the course of his stay, PM Chinh will hold meetings with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, as well as Chairman of the 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji. He will attend important meetings of the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions (AMNC) of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and join a Vietnam - China business forum.

The purpose of the visit is to concretise the substantive outcomes of the November, 2022, visit to China by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, especially amid regional and global economic fallout.
