Vietnam wins two golds at International Physics Olympiad

PSNews - The Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training revealed on July 29 that all five Vietnamese students have won medals, including two golds, at the 49th International Physics Olympiad.

The IPhO 2018 was held in Portugal from July 21 to 29 with the participation of 86 countries and territories.

The gold medal winners are Nguyen Ngoc Long and Tran Duc Huy, 12th graders from Lam Son High School for Gifted Students in Thanh Hoa province and Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, respectively.

Nguyen Xuan Tan from High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University and Trinh Duy Hieu of High School for Gifted Student in Bac Giang province won the silver medal. Both are 12th graders. Nguyen Van Thanh Loi from Quang Trung High School for Gifted Students in Binh Phuoc province pocketed a bronze medal.

The Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training added that the Vietnamese was among the teams gaining more than 2 gold medals. 

Accordingly, the Chinese and Indian team gained 5 gold medals while the S. Korean, Russian, Singaporean and Taiwanese teams all won 4 gold medals. The American team got 3 while the Vietnamese and Israeli team won 2, ranked at the 8th position according to an unofficial ranking.

The Ministry of Education and Training will welcome and congratulate the achievements of the Vietnamese team when the students return to Vietnam in the morning of July 30 as schedule.
