Vietnam wins prestigious awards at World Travel Awards 2020

PSNews - The World Travel Awards 2020 recently announced that, Vietnam has been named as Asia’s leading destination at three categories of culinary, culture and heritage at 2020 World Travel Awards ceremony for Asia.

According to the announcement, Vietnam has won a number of awards in different categories, including Asia's Leading Heritage Destination 2020, Asia's Leading Cultural Destination 2020, and Asia's Leading Culinary Destination 2020.

Vietnam has surpassed its other competitors Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand to claim the awards. The results were based on votes cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee gaining the most votes in a category named as the winner.

This is the second consecutive time that Vietnam has won these three categories. The wins reaffirmed that culture, heritage, and cuisine are dominant factors to help Vietnam win these prestigious international travel awards.

Individual Vietnamese companies however won several awards in smaller categories. In the aviation sector, an unprecedented fleet upgrade helped Vietnam Airlines lift the title of Asia’s Leading Airline – Economy Class, Asia's Leading Airline - Premium Economy Class 2020 and Asia's Leading Cultural Airline 2020.

Bamboo Airways was honoured with the title of Asia's Leading Regional Airline 2020. Meanwhile, Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province received two titles: Asia's Leading Airport Lounge 2020 and Asia's Leading Regional Airport 2020.

Muong Thanh Luxury Hotel Nha Trang bagged Asia's Leading Beach Hotel 2020, while Ha Long International Cruise Port pocketed Asia's Leading Cruise Port 2020. Hotel de la Coupole M'Gallery was awarded Asia's Leading Design Hotel 2020, and the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort was presented with Asia's Leading Green Resort 2020.

Graham Cooke, Founder, World Travel Awards shared: “Our winners represent the very best of Asia’s travel and tourism sector and give my congratulations to each of them. They have all demonstrated remarkable resilience in a year of unprecedented challenges”.

He also said that: “The World Travel Awards 2020 programme received a record number of votes cast by the public. This shows that the appetite for travel and tourism has never been stronger and bodes well for the industry’s future as the global recovery begins”.

The World Travel Awards was first launched in 1993 to acknowledge excellence in the travel and tourism industry. Heralded as the "travel industry's equivalent of the Oscars" by The Wall Street Journal, the awards are handed out based on votes by the public and travel professionals across the globe.
