Vietnam strengthens fight against crime, smuggling and commercial fraud

The event was chaired by Mr. Truong Hoa Binh, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Head of Steering Committee 138 and Steering Committee 389.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Deputy Head of Steering Committee 138; and Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Deputy Head of Steering Committee 389 attended the meeting among other leaders of ministries, Central-level agencies and leaders of all the 63 cities and provinces.

At the conference, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh delivered an opening remark emphasizing that, in 2020, in spite of difficulties caused by the COVID-19 epidemic and natural disasters, Vietnam has achieved impressive and comprehensive development results in all fields.

The Standing Deputy Prime Minister said, the Steering Committee 138 and the Steering Committee 389 as well as their all local-level affiliates have contributed significantly to the overall results.

According to a report delivered by Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong on outcomes of the task performance in 2020 and the working plan for 2020 of the Steering Committee 138, the rate of social order violations has been reduced by 6.8% in 54/63 provinces, cities while 89.5% of the crime reports and denunciations has successfully been solved by relevant agencies.

Particularly, the police forces at all levels, in coordination with functional units, successfully investigated 83.5% of the total number criminal cases while solving more than 91% of the serious and extremely serious criminal cases.

The competent forces have also discovered and investigated many economic cases, and cases related to corruption, smuggling, high-tech crime and drug-related crime. Many complex issues regarding security and order have been successfully resolved, creating fundamental changes in the national security and order situation. Further, public security agencies and units have ensured absolute safety and security for all political events in the country, especially the Party Congresses at all levels in preparation for the 13th National Party Congress.

Meanwhile, the Steering Committee 389 and its affiliates at all levels have strictly followed the Government's and the Prime Minister's guidelines and successfully handled numerous complicated cases related to smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeiting in 2020.

In particular, the functional forces at all levels have handled more than 185,000 cases, fined VND 25,000 billion and prosecuted 3,502 persons involved.

During the year, the nationwide police force participated actively and effectively in prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. The police also closely coordinated with functional forces to combat crimes of smuggling, illegal cross-border transportation, production of goods, and trading of prohibited goods.

The investigation police units at all levels also closely coordinate with procuracy agencies and courts at all levels in investigating, prosecuting and bringing to court large cases and cases of public concern in line with the laws.

At the conference, representatives from ministries, branches, localities and functional agencies also reviewed their work performances in 2020 and discussed working plans for 2021. The delegates also discussed approaches to enhance the efficiency of crime prevention, smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeiting.

To conclude the conference, on behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh recognized and praised the achievements obtained by the two committees over the past year.

He requested them to successfully complete their working programs and fulfill the tasks assigned by the Government and the Prime Minister in 2021 and beyond.
