Vietnam reports three new COVID-19 cases

Three more people on March 23 tested positive for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that caused the acute respiratory disease (COVID-19), raising the total number of infection cases in Vietnam to 121.
  • Three more flights with COVID-19 cases announced

The 119th case is a 29-year-old US citizen. He currently resides in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Thanh district and works for a financial consulting firm in the city’s district 1.

From March 1, he traveled between Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, returned to Vietnam on March 15 on a flight whose number and schedule he could not remember. Afterwards, he went to work and some other places in the city.

He had fever, cough and sore throat on March 19 and visited the FV Hospital for check-up the next day and has been quarantined and treated since then.

The 120th is a 27-year-old foreign language teacher from Canada, residing in District 2 of HCM City.

He entered Vietnam from Canada on February 11 and had close contact with the 91st case at some restaurants and entertainment places on March 14, including Bar Buddha.

After the 91st patient tested positive for the virus, the Canadian was sent to a concentrated quarantine area in district 2 on March 19. Two days later, he got fever and dry cough and was transferred to the acute respiratory disease hospital in HCM City’s Cu Chi district.

The 121st patient is a 58-year-old Vietnamese man living in Tan Binh district of HCM City.

On March 18, he and his wife flew from New York, the US, transited in Japan’s Narita airport and boarded flight NH831 back to Vietnam. They arrived at Tan Son Nhat airport on March 19 and went into quarantine in Can Gio district.

The patient got fever the next day and has been quarantined at the district’s health centre.
