Furthermore, the country also came second in Southeast Asia, just behind Indonesia.

As part of its annual Expat Insider survey which was conducted for the ninth consecutive year, InterNations asked roughly 11,970 expats living in 52 countries and territories worldwide about both living and working abroad.

The survey highlighted that the nation excels when it comes to Personal Finance, ranking first worldwide in the index.

A total of 80% of expats are happy with the general cost of living, compared to a figure of only 45% globally. Meanwhile, 79% said that there is no stress when it comes to their financial situation, with 92% saying that their disposable household income is enough or more than enough to enjoy a comfortable life.

Furthermore 24% of expats in the nation said their gross income is between US$25,000 and US$50,000 a year, with 19% saying they earn US$50,000 to US$75,000, while 14% confirmed that their gross income stands at US$75,000 to US$100,000 annually.

Despite this strong showing, the country only ranked 48th in the "Quality of Life" index and 46th in the "Expat Essentials" index, respectively.

Accordingly, over half of respondents are unhappy with the urban environment, while 64% of expats remain unhappy about air quality.

Moreover, there are also some concerns among the expat community of environmental issues, healthcare system, public transportation systems, local bureaucracy, and the availability of online administrative and governmental services. Many noted that it is difficult to open a local bank and make payments without cash.

This year, Mexico was voted as the best destinations for expats. Other Asian countries listed among top 10 include Indonesia, Taiwan (China), the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, and Singapore.

In 2021, Ho Chi Minh City made it into the top 10 cities for expats, according to the Expat City Ranking 2021 survey launched by InterNations.
