Vietnam presents medical supplies to Japan

According to the agreement between the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo in a phone call on May 4, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on May 8 presented 140,000 medical masks to Japan, under the authority of the Prime Minister.

The event saw the presence of representatives from the Governmental Office, the Ministry of Health and Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio. Earlier, Deputy Minister Le Hoai Trung had a meeting with Ambassador Yamada Takio on the occasion of the Ambassador's commencement of his working term in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized that Vietnam and Japan, as the two strategic partners, have actively exchanged, shared information and cooperated closely in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, particularly the ASEAN + 3.

He also highly appreciated measures implemented by the Government of Japan to cope with the disease, and expressed his sympathy for the losses caused by COVID-19 in Japan.

Deputy Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked the Japanese Government for supporting Vietnam in preventing and fighting the epidemic as well as for supporting the Vietnamese community in Japan, and believed under the leadership of Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and Japanese government, as well as with the effort and determination of the people, Japan will soon overcome the pandemic.

Japanese Ambassador Yamada Takio thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for their valuable assistance. He emphasized that the Japanese side will respect and effectively use the medical items donated by Vietnam. Mr. Yamada Takio also appreciated Vietnam's effective response to the epidemic, saying that Vietnam is a role model in the prevention of the epidemic.

Ambassador Yamada Takio affirmed that Japan will continue to closely coordinate with Vietnam in prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, support Vietnam in socio-economic development as well as enhance cooperation at international and regional forums especially when Vietnam is the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the term 2020-2021.

He also said that he is honored to serve as the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, affirming that he would make every effort to contribute to the development of the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
