The move aims to promote women’s involvement in the country’s political, economic and social matters, especially in the National Assembly, civil authority agencies and businesses, he said.

It is necessary to effectively implement international commitments to gender equality, particularly the realisation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, he said, stressing the role played by the UNHRC and other UN mechanisms in this regard.

At a panel discussion on the implementation of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, Dung appreciated the UNHRC’s contributions to promoting dialogues and international cooperation in human rights over the past decade.

International and regional cooperation is the key to poverty reduction, peace, security and sustainable development in the context that the world is facing increasing challenges.

As a member of the UNHRC since 2014, Vietnam has made tangible contributions to enhancing cooperation and dialogues between UNHRC member countries, he said, calling on the council and the UN in general to step up international cooperation in this field.

The 33rd session, which runs from September 13-30, is the last session Vietnam has attended in its capacity as a UNHRC member
