Vietnam attaches great importance to traditional friendship with Canada

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized Vietnam’s appreciation of the time-honored friendship with Canada at a November 8 reception in Hanoi for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

At the reception, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated Prime Minister Trudeau's visit to Vietnam as an important milestone in the relations between the two countries.

General Secretary briefed the Canadian PM on the process of renewal, development of the country as well as foreign policy of Vietnam; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Canada and the bilateral cooperation in the past time,. He also expressed its joy that the two countries' mutual relations have been upgraded to a comprehensive partnership on the occasion of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Vietnam. 

The Secretary General welcomed the outcome of talks between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Trudeau, suggested the two sides implement well the reached agreement, continue to promote relations in a deeper, more practical and effective way, for the benefit of the peoples, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.

The Canadian Prime Minister sincerely thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for the kind reception for his visit to Vietnam and expressed his deep impression of Vietnam's achievements in economic development. especailly in improving the lives of the people over the years; appreciated the foreign policy of independence, autonomy in combination with multilateralization and diversification of Vietnam.

The Canadian PM affirmed that Canada always attaches great importance to the relations with Vietnam and would continue to be a good friend of Vietnam in a rapidly changing world; highly appreciated the preparation and important contributions of Vietnam to the success of the APEC 2017; pledged to significantly promote economic, scientific and technological and educational cooperation.
