Vietnam and Japan holds Kizuna Ekiden 2018 for friendship and solidarity

The event also saw the presence of Mr. Umeda Kunio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam; Lieutenant General Kato Akihisa, General Director of the National Police Agency of Japan; Mr. Kurowa Yuji, Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture and Mr. Hirota Katsumi, Member of the Board of Directors of the Mainichi Newspaper.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh stated that the year of 2018 marks the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties (September 21, 1973 – 2018), and a milestone in the bilateral relations of politics, economics, culture, security and defence.

The Kizuna Ekiden 2018 is part of the program to celebrate the Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations, organized by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and the Mainichi Newspaper of Japan, contributing to promoting the cultural exchange activities, friendship and solidarity between the law enforcement forces, people and businesses of the two countries.

The Kizuna Ekiden Hanoi 2018 – Run for Traffic Safety also aims to raise public awareness of traffic order and safety as well as to improve the traffic forces’ sense of responsibility in maintaining traffic order and safety.

On behalf of the MPS of Vietnam, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh extended gratitude to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, the National Police Agency, the Mainichi Newspaper of Japan and other sponsors as well as relevant agencies of both countries for their supports.

For his part, Mr. Hirota Katsumi thanked the MPS of Vietnam for the effective cooperation and highlighted that the Mainichi Newspaper would continue its coordination with the MPS to organize more events and activities in Vietnam, including the Kizuna Ekiden 2018, to be held in Hanoi on November 18.
