Vietnam and Cambodia promote cooperation in drugs prevention

At the meeting, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam said that in response to complicated developments of drugs in the region and new various policies to tackle drug-related problems in the world, it is necessary for Vietnam and Cambodia, as neighboring countries, to exchange visits, share information and ideas to cooperate in tackling drug-related crimes. This also helps to improve the effectiveness of drug prevention and control of the two countries, contributing to solving drug related issues in the region.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM stressed that the relationship between the two Governments and peoples has enjoyed fine developments. Leaders of the two Governments regularly exchange visits. Mr. Ke Kim Yan's visit that is taking place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations will make an important contribution to strengthening of the traditional solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam affirmed that the Government of Vietnam attaches great importance to relations and cooperation with the international community and countries in the region, especially its neighboring countries, with a view to effectively tackling drug-related crimes.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam said that Vietnam is willing to help Cambodia build a voluntary community-based detoxification facility in the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh or in another province as proposed by Cambodia. The Government of Vietnam has assigned the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has been entrusted with the central role in coordinating with relevent agencies of the two sides to implement such projects.

Mr. Ke Kim Yan expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security as well as other Vietnamese agencies and forces for effective support and cooperation in detecting and investigating a large number of cross-border drug trafficking rings. He also wished that both sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in the coming time.

During the talks, the two Deputy Prime Ministers believed that cooperation between the two Governments and between drug prevention agencies of the two countries will reap more fruits, contributing to improving the effectiveness of drug prevention and control in each nation.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in drug prevention and control between the two countries, direct relevant agencies and authorities of border provinces to regularly exchange information and collaborate closely in investigation and detection and cracking down on drug trafficking routes.

On the same day, Mr. Ke Kim Yan and other members of the Cambodian delegation met and worked with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam.
