Through literature, Vietnamese people demonstrate their patriotism, desire for peace and undaunted will to reach the aspiration during the wartime, she said, highlighting its significance in the current national construction and defence.

Lauding valuable support from the global peace-loving people, especially poets and writers, for the country, Thinh expressed her hope that they will visit the country in a larger number.

The international conference aims to promote special values of Vietnamese literature to international friends, and help local writers exchange views with their international colleagues, the official said.

According Huu Thinh, President of the Vietnam Union of Literary and Arts Associations and President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, the conference and the festival draw the participation of nearly 200 foreign poets, writers and translators from 46 countries and territories.

The events are being held along with the 17th Vietnam Poetry Day on February 16-21 in Hanoi and the northern provinces of Quang Ninh and Bac Giang.
