US Peace Corps Director visits Vietnam

Director of the US Peace Corps Carrie Hessler-Radelet is on a five-day working visit to Vietnam October 31- November 4.

The information was released by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh at a regular press conference in Hanoi on November 3.

During US President Barack Obama’s trip to Vietnam in May 2016, Vietnam and the US signed a framework agreement on the Peace Corps operation in Vietnam and the Diretor's visit aims to discuss when and how to implement the programme.

The ongoing visit of Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet is designed to discuss the schedule to carry out the programme, Hai said.

The Peace Corps volunteers will teach the English language in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Peace Corps sends the best and brightest Americans abroad on behalf of the United States to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world.

Volunteers work at the grassroots level to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development.

Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, nearly 220,000 Americans of all ages have served in 140 countries globally.
