During the meeting, responding to reporters' questions regarding the latest developments in the East Sea, Mr. Kritenbrink said the U.S aims to ensure long-lasting peace and stability in the East Sea.

Mr.Kritenbrink said, all countries in the region should respect international law, make their territorial claims in line with international law, so a big country should not try to bully small ones in the region. “We believe in peaceful measures to resolve disputes in the South China Sea. We believe in free navigation and free over-flight in the South China Sea", he added.

The U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam emphasized that he opposes China's disruption of oil and gas activities of ASEAN’s member countries, including Vietnam’s oil and gas facilities within the country’s waters. Mr. Kritenbrink also opposes China’s acts of preventing free economic activities in the South China Sea as well as in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to Mr. Kritenbrink, the China has recently taken advantage of the COVID-19 crisis to increase provocative activities in the South China Sea. He called on China to stop its provocative acts negatively affecting stability in the region.
