Vietnam and the DPRK established diplomatic ties on January 31, 1950. Their traditional friendship, nurtured by late President Ho Chi Minh and leader Kim Il-sung, has been continuously consolidated and grown over the decades.

Kim’s official friendship visit to Vietnam will mark a new milestone in the bilateral relations, demonstrating the wish of both sides to further enhance their time-honoured friendship.

After the welcome ceremony, the two leaders held talks at the Presidential Palace.

Welcoming the DPRK leader, Trong affirmed that this visit is an important new milestone in the history of the two countries’ relations, and offers a good chance for the leaders to inform each other of each country’s situation and exchange notes on how to develop the bilateral ties, as well as on regional and international issues of shared concern.

The host congratulated the DPRK people on their great achievements gained in nation building and development. He stated that he believes that under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman Kim Jong-un, they will reap more fruits.
