Thua Thien-Hue authorities and armed forces take good care of Lao students

Some 500 Lao students studying at universities and colleges in Thua Thien-Hue have been supported by local police and army forces in the 2021-2022 school year. They even received more support from local police during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue, said the local police and military forces coordinated with local authorities to provide good services for 3 groups of Lao students at concentrated quarantine centers, according to medical regulations.

Phai Sy, a student of University of Law, Hue University, said many Lao students were concerned about the quarantine process before going to Vietnam.

As soon as they arrived in Vietnam, the Lao students were welcomed and taken to a quarantine facility, based in Phu Thuong commune, Hue city.

During their quarantine time, they were cared very well by local authorities. The medical staff and police in the facility took care of them like family members.

La Ty and Sing Sai, students of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, expressed their gratitude to the Vietnamese police and military officers who worked at the Vietnam-Laos shared border provided good care and sentiment for them when they crossed the border. Many Lao students found it hard to communicate when they first came to Vietnam, however, some Laos Vietnamese veterans volunteered to teach them Vietnamese language, history and culture, helping them quickly adapt to the new studying and living environment.

Local families of Laos Vietnamese veterans volunteered to take care of 71 Lao students studying in Hue, said Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Laos Veterans Friendship Association.

Additionally, the Pedagogical College of Thua Thien-Hue holds an annual event to call for support for Lao students who are new to Vietnam.

Over the past 2 years, the armed forces in Thua Thien-Hue have provided big support and assistance for the Lao community in general and Lao students in particular.

In addition to taking good care of the Lao students, the police and military forces in Thua Thien-Hue also supported Lao armed forces in border localities to build office buildings.

Recently, the Provincial Police Department and Military Command of Thua Thien-Hue and functional agencies and units in the province offered tens of tons of rice, instant noodles and other necessities as well as medical supplies to the Military Command of Salavan, Sekong, Laos in support of their fight against COVID-19.
