The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said heavy rain at night directly affected four of its flights.

Three planes from HCM City to Hanoi had to land in Danang and one flight from Danang to Hanoi had to land in Vinh City.

Moreover, two flights from Hanoi to HCM City and three flights to Tokyo and Seoul were delayed.

Vietjet Air also announced that many of its flights were delayed on July 31. Because of heavy rain and strong wind, their planes couldn't take off or land.

The flight from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi had to land in Vinh City and the flights from Danang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and HCM City also had to return to Danang.

At least nine flights that were supposed to take off on August 1 had their schedule affected because of late flights on the previous night.

The airlines said they had been quick to inform the passengers and updated the information on their websites to limit the impact.

On the same day, the U22 Vietnam football team faced their first hurdle on the way to South Korea to train for 29th SEA Games held in Malaysia as they were stranded at Noi Bai Airport.

The team arrived at the airport at 8.30 pm but their Vietnam Airlines' flight had its take off changed twice before finally leaving at 1.35 am.
