On January 22, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue visited social welfare beneficiaries, revolution contributors and Agent Orange victims in northern Bac Giang province.

In Lang Giang district, he presented 50 million VND (nearly 2,160 USD) while the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs presented 30 million VND to the Lang Giang centre for war invalid care. Bac Giang authorities also offered 48 gift packs to war veterans there.

Visiting Luc Nam district, the Deputy PM presented 100 gift packs to low-income earners and Agent Orange victims, wishing them health and happiness in the New Year.

He said Party committees and authorities have always cared for all people, especially those with disadvantages during Tet.

A text message campaign launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society to raise support to the poor and Agent Orange victims has received about 6.5 billion VND so far. Less privileged families and residents in border and remote areas of 13 provinces, mostly in the northern region, will benefit from this programme, Hue added.

The same day, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh joined residents in A Ngo commune of the mountainous border district of Dakrong, central Quang Tri province, in a Tet celebration.

She asked local authorities to better link the Party and State with people while encouraging ethnic minority people to further engage in patriotic emulation movements and border security, eradicate backward customs and uphold fine cultural identities.

Thinh also called on locals to strive for a better life, stay alert to plots taking advantage of religious and ethnic issues to incite illegal migration and drive a wedge among ethnic groups, and nurture the Vietnam-Laos friendship.

The Vice President presented scholarships to 150 students with disadvantages at the event.

Thinh also visited and offered Tet greetings to border guards of the La Lay International Border Gate in Quang Tri.

Also on January 22, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien visited Huoi Luong and Ma Ly Pho communes of Phong Tho district, the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

He presented gifts to the local administration and people, wishing them health, happiness and success in the New Year.

During his stay in Lai Chau, Hien paid pre-Tet visits to the Huoi Luong border guard post and border guards at the Ma Lu Thang border gate
