State funeral held for former Politburo member Nguyen Duc Binh

A State funeral will be held for Nguyen Duc Binh, former member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, former Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and former Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, who passed away on January 31.

In an announcement, the CPV Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Binh’s family said despite receiving attentive care by the Party, State, professors, doctors and his family, Binh passed away at 0:44am on January 31 at the Central Military Hospital 108 due to old age and serious illness.

A 23-member board has been established for the State funeral, headed by Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of the CPV Central Committee’s Organisation Commission. 

Nguyen Duc Binh is laid in state at the National Funeral Hall, 5 Tran Thanh Tong street, Hanoi. 

The respect-paying ceremony will take place from 7am to 10 am on February 2, followed by a memorial service. 

He will be buried in his home province of Ha Tinh on February 3. 

Nguyen Duc Binh was born on September 9, 1927 in the central province of Ha Tinh. He participated in revolutionary activities in August 1945 and became a member of the CPV in 1946. He was a member of the CPV Central Committee in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th tenures, and a member of the Politburo in the 7th and 8th tenures.
