The Ho Chi Minh Municipal Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Municipal Department of Trade and Industry held a press conference on May 28 to promote the 15th Southern Fruit Festival.

At the press conference, Truong Minh Hau, Vice Director of the Tourism Promotion Centre under the Municipal Tourism Department said the event is an annual cultural-tourism event of the City, aiming to advertise signature fruits grown in the southern region, and promote the trademark of southern fruits in particular and that of Vietnamese fruits in general.

He also shared that the festival will have a competition for the best fruits, and shows to make fruits-formed shapes, fruit juice cocktails, and dishes from fruits. Additionally, visitors to the festival can tour a garden boasting exotic fruits grown in different parts of the country and a floating market selling ripe fruits.

According to Nguyen Anh Hoa, Vice Director of the municipal Tourism Department, the festival will have 15 booths displaying embroidered products, lacquer-wares, and traditional products from craft villages, which look to preserve and develop traditional crafts in the country.

Earlier, Do Quoc Hung, Deputy Director General of the Asia-Africa Market Department said in March that, with the high demand for agricultural products, South Korea and Japan offer opportunities for Vietnam to boost export of farm produce, especially fruits and vegetables.

He suggested that local fruits and vegetable producers focus more on applying good agricultural practices and technologies, and study the markets carefully so that more Vietnamese fruits and vegetables can enter other international markets.

Currently, Vietnamese fruits and vegetables were exported to more than 60 countries and territories, with China, the US, South Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia among the biggest importers. The Government expected export revenue to reach $4.5 billion this year and $5 billion in 2020 due to an increasing consumption demand both at home and abroad.
