Soc Trang VFF Committee mobilizes nearly 34.5 billion VND for the poor

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang mobilized nearly 34.5 billion VND (1.48 million USD) for the poor last year, 300 percent of its yearly target.

The figure was reported by President of the Soc Trang VFF Committee Duong Sa Kha at a committee conference on February 13 to review its operations in 2018 and sketch out plans for 2019.

Last year, the VFF of Soc Trang supported the building of 768 houses, provided free health check-ups and gifts to poor households as well as scholarships to poor students and production assistance to poor farmers worth more than 38 billion VND.

Three new bridges in rural areas were built at a total cost of 677 million VND. Meanwhile, the provincial VFF committee worked with the Border Guard force to offer 50 breeding cows to poor people in border areas of Tran De, Cu Lao Dung and Vinh Chau town at a total value of 750 million VND.

At the conference, the Soc Trang VFF Committee presented “For the national great solidarity cause” insignia to 19 individuals with outstanding contributions to fostering national unity. Three district units, along with 36 collectives and 59 individuals, were also honoured.
